Gianni's story

Facebook Twitter Email Copy

After two falls at home, Gianni could still do most of his daily activities, but he lost the confidence to shower and go to the toilet by himself.

Gianni contacted My Aged Care for an assessment. The assessor arranged for an occupational therapist to come to his home and complete an assessment. They also arranged for a personal care worker to provide some short-term support—with the goal of helping Gianni regain his independence.

For the first few weeks, the personal care worker helped Gianni shower and use the toilet. Gianni’s occupational therapist recommended safety equipment to use when going to the toilet and to get in and out of the shower. This included grab rails and a shower chair.

Over four weeks, Gianni was able to rebuild his confidence and was comfortable moving around the bathroom on his own. He was very happy to be completely self-reliant again.
