One of our trained Meals on Wheels volunteers is available to visit people regularly in their own homes, to provide regular social contact and a friendly, familiar face. We match customers with a volunteer who shares common interests.
Our range of activities are personalised and planned with the customer to meet their needs and interests, with a focus on social connection and food experiences, such as:
• sharing a cuppa and a delicious Meals on Wheels snack or meal together
• learning different skills, such as how to use technology safely and confidently, how to do a particular craft or how to prepare a favourite recipe
• enjoying activities together like games or puzzles that keep the mind active
• sharing recipes
• supporting those with early-stage dementia at mealtime
• having meaningful and stimulating conversations, reminiscing about the past or sharing life stories
• organising to invite family or old friends over to share a delicious Meals on Wheels meal

Uniting’s support workers can visit you at home for a cuppa, conversation, and companionship. They can help you to start a new hobby or project, play cards or games with you, and even support you to use digital technology so you can easily connect with family, friends, and your community. They can also accompany you to attend local events or classes, visit your favorite café or park, attend medical appointments, or give you an extra pair of hands to help with the shopping or bill paying.
