Spotlight: Am I eligible?

Published date: 11 May 2023

One of the first questions you or a loved one might have when seeking government-funded aged care is, “am I eligible?”.

To find out if you’re eligible for services, the first step is to have an aged care assessment. These usually happen at your home.

My Aged Care’s Eligibility checker can help you quickly find out if you meet the requirements to have an aged care assessment.

How does the Eligibility checker work?

To use the tool, visit the am I eligible? page.

You will be asked a few short questions to help My Aged Care better understand your situation. This will only take a few minutes to complete.

You will be asked about your age and how well you can complete everyday tasks like eating a meal, getting dressed, walking, driving a car. Answer the questions as honestly as possible to get the most accurate result.

After answering the questions, the tool will confirm if you meet the requirements for an aged care assessment. You will then have the option to continue to apply for an assessment online.

Will the eligibility checker tell me what services I’ll receive?

No. The eligibility checker can only tell you if you’re eligible to apply for an aged care assessment. Assessments are done in person, usually at your own home.

The assessment process will ultimately determine if you’re eligible for government-funded aged care and what services you are eligible to receive.
