Tim and Robert

G'day. I'm Tim. And my dad Robert's a pretty amazing guy. He was in the war and set up a business from scratch. He was really good to us as a family, so we just want the best for him. We just want to give him the best that we can.

Yeah. He was out on the farm on his own since mum passed away. But his eyesight started getting pretty bad and he couldn't drive anymore. So it just wasn't right for him to be out there on his own anymore.

So we put a caravan out the back of our house. And he's moved in with us. But it really is just a short-term solution. It's the best we can do for now, but it's not the best place for him.

We weren't sure what to do, so we got online and had a check around. We'd heard lots of stories from friends of having to sell the house and everything just to put their parents into a home. And then the only place that's available is miles away and you never even get to see them.

So when I went online and searched for information, there's a lot of information out there. But I found out about the assessments that were available and what's involved in the whole situation and the finance of it, et cetera. But it's very overwhelming a bit at first. But it was really nice to be able to see nice and clearly step-by-step through the different options. And then we ended up calling the help line, which was great, because they talked us through some of the questions that we had.

And we got Dad on the wait list, which is great. And we even used the finders on the site to go out and check a few of the places that are available out there. So while Dad's having the assessment done, we know what the options are when it comes through, so it's been great.
