If you're on the Gold Coast and impacted by dementia, there are many local services available to support people living with dementia, their family and carers.
Our Dementia Advisory Service offers personalised support and group education programs for people living with dementia and their families and carers, supporting you to be better understand dementia and live well.
Dementia Australia also offers these services:
• Individual social support - helping with tasks like shopping or appointments, companionship, such as meeting you for coffee or a walk, and more.
• Group social support - delivered both in centre at Cedar House at Mudgeeraba and in the community. Activities could include arts and crafts, our “men’s shed”, gardening, minigolf, cooking and more.
• Special interest programs: personalised activity groups in community and at Cedar House.
• Memory Lane Cafe®
• Counselling
• Family and carer education
• Carer support groups
• Blokes in a Caring Role program.

Help for Chinese people over 65, to access, understand and deal with the range of available community based services.
The Chinese Access and Support Program provides advocacy, assessment and referrals to Chinese-speaking people over 65 who are experiencing difficulties and barriers to access services in the City of Melbourne and City of Yarra.
Elderly Chinese people can access this service to assist in maintaining their independence, health and being safe at home with support in their own language (Mandarin or Cantonese).
Eligibility: Those with a Chinese-speaking background, over 65 years of age

Merri Health COVID-19 Response
The Specialist Memory and Dementia Service, Merri Health provides assessment and intervention to clients with memory loss and dementia across all stages of dementia. Interventions are offered at the client’s home (for clients in the North & West catchment areas of Melbourne) or at the clinic at Glenroy. Services offered include: Occupational therapy (assessment & interventions for changed behaviours, home based environmental enhancement & design, memory strategies, activity planning, sensory modulation intervention, carer education regarding communication, home modifications & equipment prescription), Physiotherapy (gait aid prescription, mobility/balance assessments) exercise physiology (individualised exercise programs), speech pathology (communication assessment & intervention) and dietetics. Geriatrician and carer support/service coordination services are also available. Services are not time limited and clients can be re-referred to the service as required.
