mecwacare can provide a number of aids to assist in mobility. These include crutches, walking frames and walking sticks, wheelchairs, mechanical devices for lifting, bed rails, slide sheets and pressure-relieving mattresses. mecwacare understands that communication is
important to our clients. Our staff can provide assistance with fitting sensory communication aids,
checking hearing aid batteries, using the telephone and cleaning spectacles.

Assistive Technology Australia (formerly known as Independent Living Centre NSW)
Assistive Technology Australia provides Information and Advice to people with disabilities, older people, carers, service providers, allied health professionals and the general community on assistive technology solutions for independent living. Our information service is free to anyone needing advice on Assistive Technology solutions, home modifications and design ideas. Please note: WE DO NOT SUPPLY nor SELL items, we provide AT information and impartial advice about products and equipment.
We have built a full sized one bedroom apartment, with home modifications in situ, into the new display at Blacktown. Built to the Livable Housing Design Guidelines, showcasing assistive technology devices, involving high tech as well as simple and good design.
We run group tours, community talks and workshops to spread awareness about Assistive Technology and its role in aiding independent living.
Resthaven Community Services - Northern (Gawler & Barossa)
Goods, equipment and assistive technology include items that assist the client with self-care, mobility, communication, reading and personal care, to support the client to maintain or regain independence. These can be provided through loan or purchase.
Examples include (but are not limited to):
• support and mobility aids
• medical care aids
• communication aids
• reading aids
• car modifications
• robotic vacuum cleaners
• dressing aids
• shower chairs
• sensor mats
• over-toilet frames, bidets
• walking frames
• adapted utensils
• low vision aids such as binoculars, electronic magnifiers and magnifying/reading software.
Items to cost less than $500 per item, and not require customisation. Assessment of the client for equipment suitability, and training in its use, may also be provided.
