Our Community Respite service provides a home-like environment where clients are encouraged to undertake normal daily activities such as preparing and serving meals and gardening. These activities are conducted with a “do with, not for” attitude and supported by experienced care staff. In addition, clients undertake craft, play physically and mental stimulating games, and have a 1 hour exercise session per day. In turn, their family caregiver gets some well deserved respite. Our Community Respite is an award winning service for adults who can’t completely care for themselves anymore. The program runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and offers transport for those unable to get to the service. Note: Community Respite service types Centre-based and Flexible Respite are available under the current Department of Health CHSP Flexible Service Provision Allowance. Once this provision is retracted, these Community Respite types will no longer be available in Darwin through Southern Cross Care.
