Social support: working with the client, assistance is provided one to one by a companion (paid worker or volunteer) either at home or for activities in the community. This includes accompanying the client to do their shopping/bill paying, and while attending appointments. Staff and volunteers are trained in supporting older people and people living with dementia.
Activities are based on each client’s preferred and stated interests and hobbies:
• home-based activities such as cooking, gardening, dog walking, reading, playing games, assisting with technologies that help connect the person to their friends, family and community
• supporting the client to connect/reconnect with community groups and activities such as social or sports club, participating in exercise, attending a book club, church, football or the movies, singing in a choir, visiting friends.
Where needed staff/volunteers can provide transport and accompany the client during activities.
