Blue Mountains Food Services coordinates a social support program that matches older people who are at risk of social isolation with a volunteer to meet the client’s identified need for social contact and company. We try wherever possible to match clients with volunteers with similar interests and life experience. All our volunteers have current Police Checks, receive specific training and agree to on-going support and supervision. These support matches are provided Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm and encourage an organic friendship to grow. The support provided is customised to meet the needs of the individual and may include, companionship in the home, assisted shopping, going on regular outings, assistance with digital inclusion or dog-walking, window shopping, accompanying to cafes or our community restaurants or really just about anything that helps the person in need feel more socially connected and engaged in community life.
