Plateia aims at providing culturally and linguistically appropriate day respite/ social support to elderly Greek-speaking individuals, residing in their own homes, with a diagnosis of memory-loss, dementia or those experiencing social isolation and loneliness.
Emphasis is placed on increasing the quality of life of participants as well as providing a break to carers and over the years, Plateia has assisted many carers in prolonging the time their loved one remains at home.
Plateia provides participants with transport (to and from), meals, an extensive range of recreational activities as well as access to physiotherapy and podiatry services which foster active aging and general well-being.
Most importantly, emphasis is always placed on individuality and activities as well as the care Plateia participants receive is individually modelled to reflect their own needs and abilities.
The objectives of the Plateia Social Support Program are:
• To assist clients in meeting basic nutritional, exercise, recreational and health care needs.
• Continually assisting clients in developing, maintaining and supporting their individual capacity for independent living and social interaction.
• To decrease psychosocial problems such as anxiety, insecurity, depression and loneliness.
• To provide Carers of clients with respite and support.
• To prevent clients from prematurely or inappropriately being admitted into long term residential care.
The programs are culturally and linguistically inclusive and include:
• Social support provided in a group setting through a structured activities program.
• Group outings/excursions
• Physiotherapy exercise group and Podiatry services.
• Links to local community services
• Nutritional meals which are culturally, linguistically and spiritually appropriate.
• Transport to and from the program.
