Overnight respite can be provided during the week and / or weekend at a holiday home situated at Silver Sands in the Onkaparinga Council area. This provides an opportunity for the carer to have planned respite and the person they care for to be supported in a home setting. This supports carers to take a break from their caring role and continue to participate in work or community life, while knowing the person they care for (the client) is supported by staff trained in supporting older people and people living with dementia. A minimum of one and up to three people are accommodated in single rooms (at any one time). Client assessment is undertaken and support such as personal care, or medication management is provided to meet assessed needs. Activities, from reading the paper to walks on the beach, are tailored to meet the interests, capacity and abilities of the guests. Transport to and from the venue and personal assistance may be provided, depending on the person's circumstances.
