Cairns Continence Advisory Service (CCAS) provides confidential continence assessment in the homes (or at local health centres) of eligible clients and their carers. In partnership with each client a plan of care is developed to better manage their bladder and bowel problems.
The types of issues clients can be helped with include urinary and faecal incontinence (includes urgency and frequency), nocturia and nocturnal polyuria, catheter care, constipation, facilitation of further medical and/or allied health input, continence aid selection and access to subsidy schemes.
Outreach visits are made each month to Yarrabah and Mossman.
In addition CCAS provides support to other CHSP service providers to help their service meet the continence needs of their own clients through awareness raising, information sharing and education to support staff who provide direct service delivery.
