Merri-bek Council can assist with simple building and/or installing of aids and equipment to increase safety, accessibility and well-being within the home.
Home modifications will require a specialised function assessment by an Occupational Therapist (OT). The OT plan will list what is required and can include:
• Access pathways to your home
• Installation of lever taps or lever door handles
• Grab rail installation in showers and bathrooms
• Internal and external handrails
• Step modification, and more
Cost is from $13.20 per hour plus materials. Some jobs may require a pre-inspection, with a 30-minute minimum call out fee.
Services are available Monday to Friday, from 8.30am to 5pm. It is the responsibility of the client to gain permission needed before home modifications are done. This includes permission to modify a private property the client is renting, strata scheme permission, etc.
