Frances had been living in an aged care home for a number of years, when she had a fall getting out of bed, injuring her arm and cutting herself.
While Frances was typically quite outgoing, after the fall her care needs increased, and she found it harder to join in the activities she usually enjoyed with her friends.
To assist Frances in her recovery, the onsite nurse came and attended to her wound. During her visits, the nurse cleaned and redressed her bandages, constantly monitoring Frances’ recovery. The nurse provided Frances with appropriate pain relief, taking into consideration Frances’ current medication. They also outlined what time she should take it and provided instructions to the staff via her medication plan.
Frances was seen by a physiotherapist for a mobility review and prescribed some exercises to help her regain her confidence.
After several weeks, Frances was back up, moving independently again, and able to participate in her group activities. She felt confident that the worst was behind her and continued to live with the peace of mind that her care needs would be taken care of. Her friends were especially happy when Frances joined back in on their fitness classes.
