Statement of Rights
Under the Aged Care Act 2024, the Statement of Rights helps make sure you are at the centre of your care. If you are receiving government-funded aged care, your rights are protected. They cannot be taken away. Aged care providers must deliver services in a way that is consistent with the Statement of Rights.

Statement of Principles
The Statement of Principles guides how the government, aged care providers and workers must behave and make decisions.
The Statement of Principles:
- puts your safety, health, wellbeing and quality of life first
- values workers and carers and encourages them to contribute their ideas
- promotes stable, reliable and consistent aged care
- supports providers to improve their service and innovate.
Code of Conduct
The Aged Care Code of Conduct (Code) makes sure that providers and workers deliver care in line with your rights. The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission has the power to act when people don’t comply with the Code. This helps make sure that aged care services are safe, respectful and support your health and wellbeing.

Quality Standards
The strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards set the standard for the safety and quality of aged care. Aged care providers are expected to meet and are assessed against the strengthened Quality Standards depending on the services they deliver. This is to make sure you are at the centre of your aged care and your rights are respected and protected.
