Assessment outcome: Residential respite care

If you are approved for residential respite, the assessment organisation will send you a Notice of Decision letter.

The letter will contain:

  • details of the assessment team’s decision on your eligibility
  • the services you are eligible to receive
  • the reasons and evidence supporting the decision
  • a copy of your support plan
  • referral codes for services if you discussed this referral method with your assessor.

If you didn’t receive a letter with the assessment decision, contact your assessor and ask for a copy. You can also log in to your My Aged Care Online Account to read it.

What to do next

Once you receive your approval letter, you need to find a provider and apply for a place:

  1. Find a residential respite provider. If you have given your consent, the assessor has already sent the referral to one or more service providers. Otherwise, you will need to refer yourself.

You can find residential respite providers by using the Find a provider tool. You can also call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 for guidance.

  2. Apply for a place. Once you’ve found a provider you’re happy with, you can apply for a place for the length of your stay.

What is a referral code and why do I need it?

A referral code is your unique reference number for receiving services. You give the referral code to your chosen provider. If you lose your code, you can log in to your My Aged Care Online Account to see it. With the code, a provider can view your client record, accept the referral and start organising services for you.

Keeping track of next steps

The My guide to aged care tool will help create a ‘next steps’ checklist tailored for you.
