Sel was always worried that his partner Alix was missing out on family events.
His muscle degradation had reached a point where he relied on her for support as a carer. This made travelling interstate to see family difficult.
So, when Alix dearly wanted to be with her newborn granddaughter – the first in the family – they knew they had to find a solution.
Sel was already receiving Commonwealth Home Support Program services, so he contacted My Aged Care to see if there was a way to get respite care. My Aged Care arranged a support plan review with an aged care assessor and he was found eligible for community cottage respite services.
Sel was referred to a local community cottage respite facility that offered 24-hour care. He arranged for a 2-night stay at the respite facility while Alix was away.
Alix was able to travel with peace of mind, and Sel felt comfortable staying at the respite facility. He loved getting calls and seeing Alix and her daughter loving parenthood (and grandparenthood).
And both of them enjoyed the change of scenery!
