Last updated:

  • General announcements

The Residents’ Experience Survey is an opportunity for people living in aged care homes to have a say about their care.

In 2025, more than 44,000 residents shared their experiences of:

  • care
  • daily life
  • safety
  • respect
  • communication with staff.

What the survey found

89% of residents would recommend their aged care home to others.

93% said they have a say in daily activities.

96% said they are treated with respect, feel safe and find staff kind and caring.

85% were satisfied with staff follow-up when they raised issues.

Overall satisfaction was the highest since the survey began in 2022.

Improving food and nutrition

Around 69% of residents said they were satisfied with the food in their home.

Food experiences are the lowest-rated area in the survey. The government is continuing to address this by requiring aged care homes to meet a dedicated food and nutrition standard.

Homes also need to report on food and nutrition spending and residents’ unplanned weight loss.

Star Ratings

Star Ratings can help you compare homes and make informed decisions about your care. They are a simple way of showing the quality of care at an aged care home.

The Residents’ Experience Survey results contribute to an aged care home's Star Rating.

Aged care homes can also use the survey results to understand what is working well and where improvements are needed.
