How to choose a provider

There are key things to consider when finding the right aged care provider for you.

All providers deliver their services differently and charge different amounts. So, it’s important to do your research before making a choice.

In this section, you can learn how to find and compare providers to choose the one that best meets your needs. You’ll also find information on what to consider when choosing a provider, including whether they offer specialised services and how to easily check the quality of care an aged care home delivers through its Star Rating.

Compare your shortlisted providers

It’s easy to compare your shortlisted providers. Select up to 3 providers from your shortlist to see which one can best match your needs and preferences.

How to shortlist providers

When you are viewing your Find a provider search results, you can add up to 16 providers that look interesting to your shortlist by selecting the ‘Add to shortlist’ button. This makes them easy to find again on this page or in My Guide.

Finding care that meets your unique needs

While all providers must deliver inclusive care, some offer specialised care – tailoring their services, staff, and organisation to meet the needs and preferences of specific groups. This includes support for needs and preferences related to language, faith, culture, background, health, and lived experience.

Quality – Making sure you receive a good standard of care

Knowing that you will receive high-quality care is a key consideration when choosing a provider. It’s also important to know what the government is doing to improve the quality of care.

Every provider listed on this site is regulated by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission and needs to meet a strict set of regulations and Aged Care Quality Standards.
