Income and assets assessments for Support at Home

Some of your aged care costs will depend on your financial circumstances. To find out how much you will contribute towards Support at Home services, you will need an income and assets assessment.

On this page, we help you understand how income and assets assessments for Support at Home work.

Understanding income and assets assessments

You may be eligible for Australian Government assistance towards your aged care costs if your income and assets are below a certain level.

For most people, the income and assets assessment is done by Services Australia. However, if you receive a means tested payment from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), they will do the assessment.

Completing an income and assets assessment isn't mandatory. However, if you choose not to complete one, you can be asked to pay the maximum contribution rate.
