New Aged Care Act starts on 1 November

Facebook X (Twitter) Email Copy

Published date: 21 October 2025

A new chapter in aged care is starting soon.

The new Aged Care Act begins on 1 November. It puts you at the centre of aged care. It creates a safer and fairer system and ensures everyone has the quality of life they deserve.

Improvements to aged care

You will have the right to make decisions about your own life, feel safe and connect with your community.

Aged care will be easier to access. If you want to stay at home for longer, the Support at Home program will improve access to in-home care services.

When you need to go into an aged care home, you can choose your own provider.

What do you need to do?

If you are currently receiving care, it will continue without interruption. You will not need a re-assessment unless your needs have changed.

If you have questions about your care, contact your service provider or My Aged Care on 1800 200 422.

Changes to the My Aged Care website

To support the introduction of the new Aged Care Act, a refreshed My Aged Care website will also launch on 1 November 2025. The improved website has been designed with older people, their families and supporters at the centre.
