From 1 November 2025, the new Aged Care Act will put you at the centre of your care.
The new Act introduces stronger laws to make sure workers deliver safe, high-quality and rights-based care. Workers must:
- listen to you, understand you and treat you with kindness and respect
- support your right to make your own decisions about your life
- have the right qualifications, skills and experience to care for you
- meet the standards of the Aged Care Code of Conduct and Statement of Principles
All workers are screened and assessed, so you can feel confident the people caring for you are suitable to work in aged care.
Workers are also supported to give feedback to their employer about the quality of care your provider delivers.
These changes are designed to build a system you can trust. A system where your voice matters, your choices are respected and your care is centred around you.
