- New residents include residential respite and permanent care admissions. Residents are only counted once, when they first move in. People leave care for many reasons, such as end of life, moving to another service, going to hospital, and returning home following respite care. There are many factors that influence occupancy rates at an aged care home. This includes the number of places available at the home, renovation, and staff availability, among others. Occupancy rates alone do not reflect the likely availability of care or the quality of care at a home.
